Metadata Cleaner
Strip EXIF metadata — GPS coordinates, camera model, timestamps — from your photos in bulk before you share or publish them.
How to use Metadata Cleaner
- Add JPEG, PNG, or WebP images. The original files are not changed.
- Leave the quality option enabled for the default 92% JPEG output, or disable it for maximum JPEG quality. PNG output is unaffected by this setting; WebP inputs are exported as JPEG.
- Select Clean & Download, then compare the cleaned copies with the originals and check your browser downloads. Keep the originals if exact image encoding or color data matters.
Why strip metadata before sharing?
Photos taken on phones often embed the exact GPS coordinates of where they were shot, along with device and timestamp information. That's convenient for your own photo library, but risky to leave attached when posting publicly — it can reveal your home address or daily routine without you realizing it.
Clean photo metadata before publishing
Add JPEG, PNG, or WebP images to create metadata-clean copies in your browser. The original uploads are not changed. PNG output remains PNG; JPEG and WebP inputs are exported as JPEG, so check the output format and keep the original when you need its exact encoding or color profile. JPEG output is re-encoded at the selected quality setting, which can change image pixels slightly.
Removing EXIF is a useful privacy step before posting photos, sending images to clients, or sharing pictures from a phone. It is not a full image editor or a guarantee that every possible identifying detail is gone: visible content in the image can still reveal a location, and some non-EXIF color or format information may not be preserved through re-encoding.
Does this reduce image quality?
PNG output is re-encoded as PNG. JPEG output uses the selected quality setting (92% by default), so it may differ slightly from the source. WebP input is exported as JPEG. Compare the cleaned copy with the original when image fidelity matters.
Which image formats can I clean?
The file picker accepts JPEG, PNG, and WebP images. PNG files download as PNG; JPEG and WebP files download as JPEG copies.
Does removing EXIF remove visible location clues?
No. The cleaner removes embedded metadata, such as GPS coordinates, but it cannot remove landmarks, signs, or other location clues visible in the photo itself.
