About this tool
AAC gives better quality than MP3 at the same bitrate and is the standard audio for iPhone, YouTube and streaming. This tool saves a raw .aac stream; if you want a file that also carries metadata, choose M4A in the Extract Audio tool.
MP4 files nearly always hold AAC audio. The tool reads it directly, and when the source is AAC and you choose an AAC-family format it is copied without re-encoding.

How large a video can I use?
Because the video is processed on your device, the limit is your device's memory rather than a server quota. Phone clips of several hundred MB are fine on most devices, and desktop computers usually handle 1 to 2 GB. Files over about 4 GB are not supported.
Which browsers work best?
Current Chrome, Edge and Safari (16.4 or newer, including iPhone and iPad) work best because they include the WebCodecs video engine. Recent Firefox versions work for many files. Older browsers fall back to a much slower real-time mode or may not work at all.
Does converting MP4 to AAC reduce quality?
Some re-encoding loss is unavoidable with MP3. At 192 kbps or higher it is difficult to hear. AAC-to-AAC extraction is lossless.
Can I extract only part of the audio?
Yes. Use the start and end sliders under "Extract only a part".
