About the MP3 Metadata & Tag Editor

The Audio Metadata Editor reads and writes ID3v2 tags in MP3 files: title, artist, album, album artist, year, track number, genre, composer, comment and cover art. Clean tags make a library searchable and make files show the right name and artwork on phones, cars and streaming boxes.

Unlike converters that re-encode, this editor changes only the tag block: the MPEG audio frames are copied byte-for-byte, so there is no quality loss and the file saves in a flash even for hour-long recordings.

How the MP3 Metadata & Tag Editor works

The tag is rewritten as ID3v2.3, the most widely supported version. Text that is plain Latin-1 is stored as ISO-8859-1; anything else (accents, Cyrillic, CJK, emoji) is stored as UTF-16 with a byte-order mark. A trailing ID3v1 block is removed so players do not read stale data. Frames the editor does not touch (such as lyrics) are preserved when the source tag is v2.3. 256 bytes of padding are left so other tools can edit the tag in place.

Frequently asked questions

Does editing tags reduce quality?

No; audio frames are not changed.

Will it keep my lyrics?

Yes, unknown frames in v2.3 tags are preserved.

Does this re-encode the audio?

No — only the ID3 tag data at the start of the file is replaced. The audio stream itself is copied byte-for-byte, so there's zero quality loss.

Can I add album art to a file that doesn't have any?

Yes — upload a JPG or PNG in the Cover art field before saving.

Does this work with formats other than MP3?

ID3 tags are an MP3-specific standard, so this tool is built for MP3 files. Other formats use different tagging systems and aren't supported here.
