File Type Breakdown
A detailed, sortable table of every file type in your folder — count, total size, and average size per extension.
How to use File Type Breakdown
- Start by providing the required input: Select a folder to break down.
- No additional settings need to be configured.
- This tool has no separate run button; its results update as you add or change the input.
- Review the results, then choose an output control: Export CSV.
Knowing exactly what's in a folder before you archive or migrate it
Before compressing, migrating, or cleaning up a large folder, it helps to know the actual composition — is this mostly images, mostly documents, a handful of huge video files skewing the total. A sortable table of every file type's count and total size answers that precisely, not approximately.
Reading average size alongside total size
A file type with a small total size but a large average size (or vice versa) tells a different story than totals alone — a handful of enormous files versus thousands of tiny ones both show up as "a lot of space" in a total-only view but need very different handling.
Can I sort by a specific column?
Yes — click any column header (Extension, Count, Total Size, Average Size) to sort by it, in either direction.
What counts as "no extension"?
Any filename without a dot, or with a dot but nothing meaningful following it, grouped into its own category rather than causing an error.
