File Type Distribution Chart
A visual bar chart of file types by count and by size, so you can spot at a glance what's taking up the most room in your folder.
How to use File Type Distribution Chart
- Start by providing the required input: Select a folder to visualize.
- No additional settings need to be configured.
- Run the tool with By Size or By Count.
- Review the result or preview on the page and confirm it matches your input before using or sharing it.
Seeing storage composition at a glance, not in a table
A table of numbers takes a moment to interpret; a bar chart makes "this folder is 80% video files" immediately obvious without reading a single number. Visualizing both file count and total size per type gives two different, equally useful views of the same folder.
Why count and size tell different stories
A folder can have thousands of tiny text files (dominating the count view) alongside a handful of huge video files (dominating the size view) — switching between the two tabs shows which type actually matters for your specific question, whether that's "what's cluttered" or "what's heavy."
How many file types are shown in the chart?
The top 12 by whichever metric (size or count) you're currently viewing, to keep the chart legible rather than cluttered.
Can I get exact numbers instead of a visual bar?
Yes — each bar shows its value directly, or use File Type Breakdown for the same data as a sortable, exportable table.
Does the chart update if I select a different folder?
Yes — selecting a new folder recalculates and redraws both charts immediately.
