Breaking up a CSV that's grown too large to work with
A CSV with hundreds of thousands of rows is slow to open, slow to process, and sometimes simply too large for a system's import limit. Splitting it into smaller chunks — by a fixed row count, or grouped by a column's unique values — makes the data manageable again without losing anything.
Splitting by row count versus by column value
Row-count splitting is purely mechanical and good for working around size limits; splitting by column value (like a department or region field) produces files that are meaningfully organized, not just smaller — useful when each resulting file needs to go to a different recipient.
Does every split file include the header row?
Yes — each output file is a complete, valid CSV with its own header row, ready to open or import independently.
What happens with blank values when splitting by column?
Rows with a blank value in the split column are grouped into their own "unspecified" file rather than being dropped.
How are the split files delivered?
As a single zip archive containing every split file, ready to extract.
