Clean Voice Recording

A two-step chain built for voice recordings: reduce background noise using a sample you mark, then automatically bring the result up to a consistent, safe loudness.

How to use the Clean Voice Recording

  1. Add your audioDrop a file onto the page or tap to browse — or press “try a built-in sample” to explore first. Nothing is uploaded; the file is decoded on your device.
  2. Pick a presetChoose Noisy room, Phone/laptop mic or Light touch — or set noise reduction, rumble filter, evening-out and gate manually.
  3. Clean and comparePress Clean my recording; the result lists the exact chain applied. Flip between Original and Result.
  4. DownloadPick MP3 or WAV and press Download. You can even listen to the exact file you just saved before you close the page.

About the Clean Voice Recording

Clean Voice Recording is the one-click chain for turning a rough voice recording — a phone memo, laptop-mic interview, lecture or voice-over — into something clean and consistent: rumble removed, background noise reduced, volume evened out and loudness set.

Each step is optional and adjustable, and a plain-language report tells you what was applied, in order.

How the Clean Voice Recording works

Chain: 80 Hz high-pass (4th-order Butterworth) → spectral noise reduction (auto-learned profile, 0–100%) → optional soft gate (−48 dB threshold, −12 dB, 150 ms hold) → feed-forward compressor (−24 dB threshold, 1.5–3.5:1) → loudness normalisation to −16/−19/−14 LUFS with true-peak limiting. Noise reduction runs before compression so that the compressor does not raise the noise floor.

What people use it for

Phone recordings

Make voice memos listenable.

Lectures

Clean a classroom recording.

Podcast guests

Fix remote interviews.

Video narration

Prep voice-over.

Tips for the best results

  • Start with the preset closest to your situation, then tweak.
  • If voices sound thin, lower noise reduction.
  • Use ‘Hush the gaps’ only if pauses still have audible noise.

Frequently asked questions

What order is best?

Remove rumble, reduce noise, then compress — compressing first would amplify the noise.

Is it AI?

No, classic DSP; it runs fully offline.

What exactly does this do, step by step?

First it runs spectral-subtraction noise reduction using your marked noise sample (same engine as the standalone Audio Noise Reducer, at a medium strength), then it normalizes the result to a safe -1dB peak (same engine as the Audio Normalizer).

Can I control the noise reduction strength or normalization target?

Not on this combined page — it uses sensible medium-strength defaults for both. For full manual control over each setting, use the Audio Noise Reducer and Audio Normalizer tools separately in sequence.
