Cleans up dead air at the very beginning and end of a recording — perfect after recording a voice memo — without touching any pauses in the middle.
Trim Silence from Start and End strips the quiet before the first sound and after the last one — the dead air you get when you press record, collect your thoughts and press stop. Everything in the middle is left exactly as it is.
A “keep a little room” setting leaves a few hundredths of a second so the first word is not clipped and the last note’s decay is not chopped off.
The file is scanned in 5 ms blocks from each end until the RMS level (across all channels) exceeds the threshold. The kept region is extended by the padding on each side and copied with a 4 ms edge fade. Unlike the generic Remove Silence tool nothing inside the recording is touched.

This tool only trims the leading and trailing edges — any pauses in the middle of the recording are left exactly as they are. Use Remove Silence from Audio if you want internal gaps removed too.
