How to use Modification Timeline
- Start by providing the required input: Select a folder to build a timeline for.
- No additional settings need to be configured.
- This tool has no separate run button; its results update as you add or change the input.
- Review the result or preview on the page and confirm it matches your input before using or sharing it.
Reconstructing "what happened when" after the fact
After a bulk edit, a migration, or a suspicious change, the question is often simply "what got touched and on what day." Grouping every file's last-modified date into a day-by-day timeline answers that without manually sorting a file list by date yourself.
Why grouping by day instead of showing a flat sorted list
A flat list sorted by timestamp buries the pattern of activity; grouping by day surfaces it immediately — a burst of 40 files all modified on one specific day stands out instantly as a day worth asking about.
What timestamp does this use?
Each file's last-modified date, as reported by the browser's File API — the only reliable timestamp available for a selected file.
Can I see more than 20 files for a busy day?
The on-page view shows the 20 most recent files per day to keep things readable; the day's total file count is always shown even when the list is truncated.
Does this include subfolders?
Yes — selecting a folder includes every file inside it and its subfolders in the timeline.
