How to use Folder Dashboard
- Start by providing the required input: Select a folder.
- No additional settings need to be configured.
- This tool has no separate run button; its results update as you add or change the input.
- Review the result or preview on the page and confirm it matches your input before using or sharing it.
A one-screen summary instead of clicking through subfolders
Understanding what's actually inside a large folder — how many files, what types, how deep the structure goes — usually means digging through File Explorer or Finder one level at a time. A single dashboard view answers all of that in one pass the moment you select the folder.
What "max folder depth" tells you
A high folder depth number often signals an overly nested structure (folders inside folders inside folders) that's worth flattening — useful context when deciding whether a folder's organization needs a cleanup pass.
Does this read file contents?
No — only metadata (name, size, type, last-modified date, and path depth) is read, so the dashboard loads quickly even for large folders.
What counts as the "oldest" and "newest" file?
Based on each file's last-modified timestamp, not when it was added to this particular folder — a copied file keeps its original modified date.
Can I export this summary?
Not directly from this tool — for an exportable, detailed breakdown by file type, use File Type Breakdown instead.
