Folder Compare Report
Compare two folders file-by-file using content hashing to see exactly what was added, removed, or changed — then export a clean report.
Browser folder picker support varies — if unavailable, you can also multi-select individual files instead.
How to use Folder Compare Report
- Start by providing the required input: Select Folder A; Select Folder B.
- Set the inputs and options shown here: Folder A (older), Folder B (newer).
- Follow the format note: Browser folder picker support varies — if unavailable, you can also multi-select individual files instead.
- Run the tool with Compare Folders.
- Review the results, then choose an output control: Export Report (.txt), Export CSV.
Why "did the files actually copy" is hard to answer by eye
Comparing two folders side-by-side in a file manager tells you file counts, not whether the files are actually identical. A folder compare report settles that by hashing every file's content with SHA-256, so two files with the same name but different content — or different names with identical content — are both caught accurately.
Generating a report you can hand to someone else
Once the comparison runs, export either a CSV (for filtering and sorting) or a plain-text report (for pasting into an email or ticket) that lists exactly what was added, modified, or removed between the two folders.
Does this upload my files anywhere?
No — every file is read and hashed locally in your browser using the File API. Nothing is sent to a server, which matters when comparing folders with private or client data.
What counts as "modified"?
A file with the same relative path in both folders but a different SHA-256 hash — meaning its content changed, even if the file size looks the same.
Can I compare folders with thousands of files?
Yes, though hashing time scales with total file size — very large folders (tens of thousands of files or many GB) will take longer since hashing happens in your browser, not on a server.
