How to use Tagging Dashboard
- Use these example values as a starting point: One item per line: Item name | tag1, tag2, tag3 e.g. Homepage redesign | urgent, design, q3 API migration | backend, urgent Blog post | content, low-priority; New tag name (merge target). Use Load Sample to try example data first.
- No additional settings need to be configured.
- Run the tool with Build Dashboard.
- Review the results, then choose an output control: Export CSV.
Free-text tags are only useful if you can see patterns in them
Tagging items is easy; noticing that twelve of your fifteen open items share the tag "urgent" — or that a tag has three slightly different spellings scattered across your list — takes an actual dashboard. This tool turns a plain list of "item | tags" lines into a frequency view and a filterable table in one pass.
Cleaning up tag sprawl with bulk rename
It's common for a tag to accumulate variants over time ("q3", "Q3", "quarter-3"). The bulk rename/merge feature consolidates every item using one variant into your chosen canonical tag name in a single operation.
Are tags case-sensitive?
No — tags are normalized to lowercase automatically, so "Urgent" and "urgent" are treated as the same tag.
What's the input format?
One item per line: Item name | tag1, tag2, tag3. The pipe character separates the name from its comma-separated tags.
Can an item have no tags?
Yes — just leave the part after the pipe blank, or omit the pipe entirely; the item will simply show with an empty tag list.
