What happens when you open a secure link
A secure link's encrypted payload lives in the URL fragment — the part after the # — which browsers never transmit to any server. Opening the link loads this page, which decrypts that payload locally using either the password you enter or a key embedded directly in the link, depending on how it was generated.
Why some links ask for a password and others don't
Links created in password mode require you to enter the password separately (ideally shared through a different channel, like a text message) before anything decrypts. Links created in keyless mode decrypt automatically the moment the page loads, since the key travels with the link itself.
Is anything uploaded when I open a secure link?
No — decryption happens entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API; the encrypted content and the decrypted result both stay local to this page.
What if I get "Incorrect password or the link is corrupted"?
Double-check the password was entered exactly as shared, with no extra spaces — a single wrong character will produce this error since decryption requires an exact match.
Can I open a link that was sent to me in a different way, like pasted into a message?
Yes — paste the full link (including everything after the #) into the manual-open field if it didn't open automatically by clicking it.
