Standardizing inconsistent values within one column

A single column often accumulates several ways of saying the same thing — "USA," "U.S.A.," "United States" — especially in data entered by different people over time. Mapping every variant to one standard value, scoped to just the column where it matters, cleans this up without touching anything else in the file.

Why this is column-scoped, not a whole-file find and replace

A plain find-and-replace across an entire file risks changing a value that happens to match in a completely different, unrelated column — scoping replacements to one specific column avoids that cross-contamination.

Can I replace a value with nothing (blank it out)?

Yes — leave the "new value" side blank in your rule to turn a specific value into an empty cell, useful for clearing placeholder text like "N/A."

Is matching exact or partial?

Exact — the whole cell value must match the rule's "old value" precisely; this isn't a substring find-and-replace within a longer cell.

Can I define several replacement rules at once?

Yes — one rule per line, and all of them are applied to the chosen column in a single pass.
