When data was exported sideways
Some exports put dates or categories across the columns instead of down the rows — readable in the source system, awkward for most analysis tools that expect the opposite orientation. Transposing the full matrix flips rows and columns in one operation, no formulas or manual copy-paste required.
What transposing actually does to the data
Every row becomes a column and every column becomes a row — the header row becomes the first column of the output, and the data's actual values are unchanged, just rearranged into the opposite orientation.
Does transposing work on CSVs with a different number of columns per row?
Yes — the widest row determines the output's row count, with shorter rows treated as having blank cells in the missing positions.
Can I transpose a file back to its original orientation?
Yes — transposing an already-transposed file restores the original layout, since the operation is fully reversible.
Does this work on very wide or very long files?
Yes, with no fixed size limit, though extremely large files will naturally take a moment longer to process in your browser.
