Multi-Column Sorter
Sort a CSV by multiple columns at once — set the priority order and ascending/descending direction for each, just like Excel's multi-level sort.
How to use Multi-Column Sorter
- Start by providing the required input: Drop a CSV file.
- No additional settings need to be configured.
- Run the tool with Sort.
- Review the results, then choose an output control: Download Sorted CSV.
Sorting by more than one column, properly
Sorting a spreadsheet by department and then by name within each department — Excel's classic multi-level sort — needs more than a single-column sort can offer. Defining sort levels with priority order and direction, each one breaking ties from the level before it, reproduces that exact behavior.
How numeric and text columns sort differently
A column where every value parses as a number sorts numerically (so 2 comes before 10); otherwise it sorts alphabetically — meaning you don't need to specify the sort type yourself, it's detected automatically per level.
How many sort levels can I add?
As many as you need — add levels to break ties as finely as your data requires.
Does the first level always take priority?
Yes — rows are sorted by the first level first; the second level only determines order among rows that tie on the first level, and so on down the list.
Is the sort stable?
Yes — rows that are equal across every defined sort level keep their original relative order rather than being shuffled unpredictably.
