Crop a photo into a circle or any shape

This free circle image cropper turns any picture into a round profile photo in a few taps. Add your image, drag it so the face is in the middle of the circle, zoom in if you need to, and download a square image with a transparent background outside the circle. It works for social media profiles, messaging apps, website avatars, team pages and presentations.

Not only circles: choose a rounded square, squircle, hexagon, heart, star, diamond or triangle. Add an optional border in any colour, rotate or flip the photo, and export at 256, 512, 1024 or 2048 pixels as PNG or WebP. Both formats keep the transparent corners.

Many sites show profile pictures in a circle automatically. If so, you can upload the square image from this tool, or the circle version, whichever the site accepts. Tip: keep the main subject in the middle and leave a little space around the head so nothing important is cut off.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop a photo into a circle?

Add your photo, keep the Circle shape selected, drag the photo until your subject is centred, and press Download. The result is a square image with the corners transparent.

Will the background be transparent?

Yes. PNG and WebP keep transparency, so the area outside the shape is see-through. JPG cannot do this, so it is not offered here.

What size should a profile picture be?

Most platforms work well with 400 to 1000 pixels. 512 or 1024 px are good choices. Check the site you are uploading to for its minimum size and file limit.

Can I add a border?

Yes. Open the Border section, set a width and choose a colour. The border follows the shape.

Does it reduce quality?

The photo is drawn once at the export size, so a high-resolution original stays sharp. If your photo is smaller than the export size, it is enlarged, so choose a smaller export size to avoid softness.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. It is cropped in your browser and never leaves your device.
