Don't have an audio file to analyze, or just want to feel out a tempo? Tap along to any beat — live music, a song in your head, a metronome — and get an instant BPM reading.
The Tap Tempo Finder works out a song’s BPM from your tapping — useful when you hear music but have no file to analyse. It averages your recent taps, ignores accidental slips and shows how steady your timing was.
It also gives the half-time and double-time values and the tempo name (Andante, Allegro…).
The last 12 tap intervals are examined; the median interval is found and intervals more than 35% away from it are discarded as outliers. BPM = 60000 ÷ the mean of the rest in milliseconds. Steadiness is derived from the standard deviation of the remaining intervals. After 2.5 s without a tap the count restarts.

BPM Detector analyzes an uploaded audio file automatically. This tool is for when you don't have a file — you tap along yourself, by ear or by feel.
It automatically resets after about 2.5 seconds of no tapping, so a stale old rhythm doesn't get averaged in with a new one.
This tool runs entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API. Nothing is uploaded, stored or shared — there is no server to send your file to, so it works offline once the page has loaded.
