"On track" based on actual pace, not a gut feeling

Saying a project is "on track" usually means nobody has done the math yet. Calculating a real projected finish date from your current progress rate — not the plan, the actual pace so far — tells you honestly whether the deadline is realistic or already slipping.

Why this uses pace instead of just remaining time

Remaining time until the deadline tells you nothing about whether you'll actually make it; dividing current progress by days elapsed gives a real velocity figure, and projecting that forward is a far more honest signal than hoping the pace will suddenly improve.

What happens if progress is 0%?

No forecast can be calculated without measurable progress — the tool reports that explicitly rather than showing a misleading number.

Does this account for the fact that work often speeds up near a deadline?

No — it assumes your pace stays constant, which is a simplification; treat the forecast as an early-warning signal, not a guarantee.
