Duplicate File Finder
Find exact duplicate files by comparing content hashes, not just filenames — see exactly how much space is wasted and download only the files you want to keep.
How to use Duplicate File Finder
- Start by providing the required input: Drop files or a folder to scan.
- Set the inputs and options shown here: ${FT.escapeHtml(f.name)}.
- Run the tool with Find Duplicates.
- Review the results, then choose an output control: Download Selected Files.
Filenames lie about duplicates; content doesn't
"Resume.docx" and "Resume_final_v2.docx" might be identical files, while two files named exactly the same thing could have completely different content. Comparing files by their actual content — using a SHA-256 hash, the same technique used to verify software downloads — catches true duplicates regardless of what they're named.
Reclaiming space without losing anything
Every duplicate group shows how many extra copies exist and how much space they're wasting combined, and lets you pick exactly which copy to keep per group before downloading only the files you've selected.
What if two files are 99% similar but not identical?
They won't be grouped as duplicates — this tool finds exact matches only. For near-duplicate detection (similar but not identical), see the Smart Deduplicator, which works on CSV row data specifically.
Which copy gets kept by default?
The first file in each duplicate group is pre-checked to keep, but you can change the selection to any copy in the group before downloading.
Is hashing reliable for finding duplicates?
Yes — SHA-256 hash collisions (two different files producing the same hash) are considered computationally infeasible, making it a dependable way to confirm files are truly identical.
