Folder Search
Search every file inside a folder by filename or by text content — great for finding "which file has this in it" without opening each one.
How to use Folder Search
- Start by providing the required input: Select a folder to index.
- No additional settings need to be configured.
- This tool has no separate run button; its results update as you add or change the input.
- Review the result or preview on the page and confirm it matches your input before using or sharing it.
Finding "which file has this in it" without opening each one
Searching a folder by filename alone misses the far more common question: which of these fifty text files actually contains the string you're looking for. Indexing readable file content locally and searching both filename and content together answers that in real time as you type.
What gets indexed for content search
Text-based files under 2MB — code, config, Markdown, JSON, and similar formats — are read and indexed; binary files like images are matched by filename only, since searching their raw bytes as text wouldn't be meaningful.
Is my folder's content uploaded anywhere to search it?
No — indexing and searching both happen entirely in your browser's memory; nothing is sent anywhere.
Why wasn't a large file's content searched?
Files over roughly 2MB are skipped for content indexing to keep the page responsive — their filename is still searchable.
Can I search across more than one folder?
Not with this tool — for searching several separately selected folders together, use Multi-Folder Search instead.
