Remove EXIF data and GPS location from photos

Almost every photo from a phone or camera carries hidden information called EXIF metadata. It can include the GPS location where the picture was taken, the date and time, the phone or camera model, the software used and more. When you send the original file, anyone who receives it may be able to read that data. This free EXIF remover shows what is inside each photo and removes it.

For JPG, PNG and WebP files the tool cuts the metadata out of the file directly. The picture itself is not touched, so there is no quality loss and no re-compression. It also removes XMP and IPTC data, text comments, thumbnails and extra images that some phones append. If a photo needs its rotation, a tiny orientation tag is kept so the picture still shows the right way up. You can switch that off, or choose the strongest option, which re-draws the image from scratch.

Everything runs in your browser, so the very photos you want to protect are never uploaded anywhere. Add up to 50 photos at once and download them together as a ZIP.

How it works

  1. Add your photos

The tool reads each file and lists what it contains, including any GPS location.

  2. Check the options

Keep the rotation and colour profile, or choose the strongest clean.

  3. Download

Save the cleaned photos one by one, or all together as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

What is EXIF data?

EXIF is information stored inside a photo file by your camera or phone. It often holds the date and time, camera and lens details, settings such as exposure, and sometimes the GPS coordinates of where you stood.

Does removing EXIF reduce quality?

No, not in the default mode. The tool removes the metadata blocks from the file and leaves the image data as it is. Only the "re-draw" option re-saves the picture, and that can reduce JPG and WebP quality slightly.

Does it remove everything?

It removes EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC and text comments, thumbnails and data attached after the image. It keeps only what is needed to show the picture correctly: the image data, and by your choice the rotation and colour profile. Nothing can promise that no trace exists in an unusual file, so the strongest option is there for those.

Why do I see "No metadata found"?

The photo may already be clean, for example if it was saved by a messaging app or social network. Screenshots usually have no location either.

Can this show where a photo was taken?

If the file contains GPS coordinates, the tool shows a GPS tag with the numbers so you know before you share it. Those numbers are shown only on your screen.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The file is read and cleaned in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
