How to use the Screen Recorder tool

About this tool
Browsers can capture your screen directly, with your explicit permission, which means a screen recorder needs no download and no account. Choose the whole screen, a single window or one browser tab; in Chrome and Edge you can also tick "Share audio" to capture the sound of a tab or your computer, and the tool mixes that with your microphone.
Recording is done with the browser's own recorder, so it costs very little processing power. Nothing is streamed anywhere: the video is assembled in memory and saved on your device when you stop. When the recording is ready you can continue straight into the other tools, for example to convert it to MP4, trim the dead air at the start, or compress it for sharing.

Good to know
- Screen recording is a desktop feature: phones and tablets do not allow it. Chrome and Edge can capture tab or system audio; Firefox and Safari usually capture only your microphone.

- Very long recordings are held in memory before saving, so keep an eye on long sessions and record in parts if your device is short of memory.

Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs inside your browser tab using your own device's video hardware. Your file is never sent to ToolsCrow or anyone else, which also means there is no waiting for an upload and it keeps working if your connection drops after the page has loaded.
Is it really free? Is there a watermark?
It is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits. The only limits are the ones your device sets: memory and processing power.
How large a video can I use?
Because the video is processed on your device, the limit is your device's memory rather than a server quota. Phone clips of several hundred MB are fine on most devices, and desktop computers usually handle 1 to 2 GB. Files over about 4 GB are not supported.
Which browsers work best?
Current Chrome, Edge and Safari (16.4 or newer, including iPhone and iPad) work best because they include the WebCodecs video engine. Recent Firefox versions work for many files. Older browsers fall back to a much slower real-time mode or may not work at all.
Can I record the screen on my phone?
No. Mobile browsers do not allow screen capture. Use your phone's built-in screen recorder, then trim or compress the file here.
Can I record sound from my computer?
In Chrome and Edge, tick "Share audio" in the sharing dialog to capture the tab or system sound; the tool mixes it with your microphone if you enabled that. Firefox and Safari generally only capture the microphone.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. It is built in your browser's memory and written to your device when you press stop.
Why is my file a WebM?
Most browsers record WebM. Use "Convert to MP4" on the result screen for a file that plays everywhere.
