Convert torque - rotational force - between newton-meters, pound-feet, pound-inches, kilogram-force meters and more. This is what you need when a wheel-nut, bolt or engine spec is written in a unit your torque wrench does not use.
Torque is force times distance. See also the force converter, the power converter and the length converter.
Set wheel-nut and engine bolt torques from service manuals written in N·m or lbf·ft.
Match fastener specs between metric and imperial torque wrenches.
Compare motor and engine torque ratings from different manufacturers.
1 lbf·ft is 12 lbf·in. Confusing them is a 12× error, so double-check the unit on your wrench.
1 N·m is about 0.7376 lbf·ft, and 1 lbf·ft is about 1.3558 N·m.
Multiply newton-meters by 0.737562. For example, 100 N·m ≈ 73.76 lbf·ft.
Multiply pound-feet by 1.355818. For example, 150 lbf·ft ≈ 203.4 N·m.
In practice both are used for torque. Strictly, lbf·ft is torque and ft·lbf is energy/work, but they share the same numeric conversion factor.
One kilogram-force meter equals exactly 9.80665 N·m.
